Product Description
Fast Corinth V Zinc Chloride Double Salt is the tetrachlorozincate (2:1) of 2-methoxy-5-methyl-4-[(4-methyl-2-nitrophenyl)azo]benzenediazonium. It belongs to the "fast color salts", in which a reactive diazonium cation is stabilized as a double salt with zinc chloride so that it can be handled and stored as a solid.
The diazonium group is an electrophile. Under suitable pH it attacks electron-rich aromatic rings such as phenols and naphthols (azo coupling), giving an intensely colored azo compound. This reaction is the basis of both its dyeing use and its use as a color-forming reagent, for example with phenolic cannabinoids such as THC, CBD and CBN.
Compared with Fast Blue BB salt and similar reagents, Fast Corinth V gives a similar hue for the different cannabinoids. This makes it less useful for distinguishing cannabinoids on TLC, but helpful in field and total-cannabinoid color tests, where samples of different age or origin should give the same color.
