CAS25225-08-5
1-(3,3-Dimethylcyclohexyl)ethyl formate (Aphermate, CAS 25225-08-5) is a synthetic formate ester used as a fragrance ingredient. It gives a fresh pine, herbal and seashore-like odor with apple nuances at low dilution, lasts more than 12 hours on a smelling strip, and is fairly stable in soap and candle bases. Product Description
Aphermate, chemically 1-(3,3-dimethylcyclohexyl)ethyl formate (C11H20O2, MW 184.27), is a colorless liquid aroma chemical also known as marine formate. It is soluble in alcohol and only slightly soluble in water, which suits it to ethanol-based perfumes and oil-phase fragrance concentrates.
Its odor is described as a fresh pine, herbal and earthy seashore complex; at low concentration a crisp apple-like fruitiness comes forward. With a boiling point of about 228-229 °C it evaporates more slowly than typical citrus top notes, so it works as a bridge from the top note into the heart of a composition.
Compared with classic aquatic materials such as Calone, Aphermate adds a pine-herbal freshness rather than a pure ozonic-melon effect, so the two are often used together. It blends well with green, spicy, citrus and woody notes and holds up in functional bases such as soap and candles, where many fresh top notes fade.
For purchasing, confirm appearance, assay (GC), refractive index and specific gravity against the specification, and request the COA for each batch. The flash point is about 103 °C (closed cup); store in tightly closed containers in a cool, dry place away from heat and light.
